Dentures

What are Dentures?

A Denture is a replacement for Upper and/ or Lower missing teeth. A Full Denture can replace a full set of Upper and/or Lower teeth. A Partial Denture can replace a partial section of missing teeth. In any case, a Denture is always removable, and is not fixed like a Permanent Bridge.

What Are The Two Types Of Full Dentures?

Full Dentures are made when all the teeth are removed and the tissue has been given enough time to heal. This can take a few months and during that time the patient will be without teeth.

Immediate Full Dentures are made for those who prefer to not have any time without teeth. Dr. Sunners takes Impressions and has the Dentures fitted for your mouth prior to having your teeth removed. This will require follow-up visits to modify your Dentures because as your mouth heals, the jaw bone is expected to slightly change its shape.

Do Dentures Take Time To Get Use To?

Yes, it is often described as a bulky feeling that crowds the tongue. Some people say Dentures feel loose. In the early-stages of wearing them, your mouth will need to become trained to speak and eat with your Dentures. Although they may not feel like your natural teeth did, they are still a better alternative to having no teeth at all.

What Are Dentures Made Of?

They are made out of pink-colored acrylic with porcelain or acrylic teeth.

How Do I Care For My Dentures?

Dentures are not real teeth but should be taken of much in the same way. Dentures should be brushed to remove plaque, food particles and bacteria. They should be removed nightly and placed into room temperature water or into a Denture cleaning solution.
